Originally from the Washington, DC area, Hackley has lived and worked abroad extensively in both the private and public sectors.

A perennial "old soul," Hackley has aspired to be a writer since his early teens. After writing a few unpublished novels that he now considers "over-indulgent crap," Hackley began writing thrillers. 

He is currently writing the Jake Williams series, a set of novels that explores corruption around the world. The series is heavily inspired by John D. MacDonald's Travis McGee and Hackley's experiences living abroad.
